HISTORY

The origins of this office date to 1979. Dr. James Zimmerman opened his pediatrics practice that year at The Health Center in Bloomington . Following two years of rapid practice growth and very hard work, a friend and colleague from his residency program joined him, Dr. John Bandy. When they outgrew their original facilities, they opened a new clinic on Eastland Drive in Bloomington in 1987.

The following years saw a tremendous increase in the number of children served. Dr. Barry Weaver joined forces with Drs. Zimmerman and Bandy in 1989. The scope of care expanded to include pediatric and adult allergy when Dr. Mark Ulbrich entered the group the next year. Others came aboard every few years since that time as the community’s population and medical needs grew: Dr. Erik Boe in 1995, Dr. Kaye Harms Toohill in 1998, and Dr. Deanna Knoll in 2002. We celebrated the arrival of our newest physician, Dr. Brian Emm, in the summer of 2006.

The blossoming of the patient population eventually meant another move for the group. In 2003, now bearing the name Bloomington Pediatrics and Allergy, the practice completed a new structure at 306 St. Joseph Drive in Bloomington, a short distance south of the previous location. This facility allowed marked improvement in patient and family comfort and service.

The story of Bloomington Pediatrics and Allergy is hardly limited to the physicians and the buildings. We have been blessed with outstanding individuals serving with dedication and talent in all areas. This has been coupled with remarkable longevity of employment among office staff and nurses as well as the doctors. We appreciate how these persons have given of themselves to help improve the lives of children in our community.
